PACIFIC GAS AND ELECTRIC COMPANY SEMI-MONTHLY STATUS REPORT DIABLO CANYON SEISMIC REVIEV, PROGRAM ~

25, 1981 'ovember

~Summa r This report summarizes the progress of our seismic reviev from November 12, ]St,!

through the close of business on Monday, November 23, 1981.

The revised containment annulus vertical seismic response spectra (spectraj have been finalized and distributed to the mechanical, structural., and electric-;

disciplines. Their revievs have begun and are scheduled for completion by December 11. The piping review is expected tn be complete by December 31, 198!.

Engineering Quality Control plans to conduct a training program in Engineerinp Manual procedures and will emphasize the relationship of these procedures tn the corporare QA prngram. All Engineering Departmer.t personnel vorking or. Dia""

Canynn Design activities will be enrolled i".. this prngrar...

A progress of these vork activities is displayec in ar. attachec chart Technical 4ork Pro ress Civil En ineerin The revised spectra were received fror.. URSA'Blume and have beer. revle4'ec and distributed by PGandE tn the appropriate engineering disciplines for qualification of safety-related structures, sysrems, and cnmpcnents.

From reviews tn date, no modifications tn the structura'tee'r concrct.<

in the annulus are expected to result from revised spectra. A confirmatory reviev will be made after the finalized seismic loads from piping and equipment are determined.

Mechanical En ineerin The spectra in a graphical and digitized format have been issued for qualifying as-built plant installations. The status and schedule of the review, qualification, and design efforts are discussed below:

Mechanical E ui ment (excludin valves)

The only pieces of equipment that require qualification to the revised spectra are the containment far. coolers and hydrogen recombiners. 'The hydrogen recombiners have been qualified for the revised spectra. The review of fan coolers is scheduled for completion by December 4, 1981.

The independent verification program being performed by R. L. Cloud Associates, Inc., previously identified that the regenerative heat exchanger was qualified to tau filtered containment floor vertical spectra instead of unfiltered. Further review by PGandE .identified that the accumulators also were qualified on the same ba5is.

Qualification of this equipment to the appropriate spectra is schedul~c-to be completed by November 30, 1981.

Valve qualification is currently being performed; see the piping discussion below.

Instrumentation Instrumentation components, enclosures, revised tubing, and tubing supports are being qualified to the revised spectra and completicn of this work is scheduled for November 30, 1981. To date, no installations have been found which require modification.

~Pi in Qualification of piping, pipe supports, nozzles, and valves tn tht revised vertical spectra is in progress. Fifty-seven piping analys~=

were found to be affected by revisec spectra. Twenty-sever cf thee-analvses have beer, performed and are in various checking and apprc'.

stages. Preliminary review of analyses indicates a trend to lower pipe stresses and nozzle and support loads.

Qualification ci supports done by manual calculation of loads is i"..

progress. Very few supports require review as the revised peak accelerations are lower than the pre and post frame re-orientatior. pe k accelerations except for elevation 101'etweer. azimuths 18'nd 1'3'.

Qualification of supports done by computer analyses of loads will beg n November 24, 1981.

Respectfully submitted, A. B an
