ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT RELATING TO EXEMPTION FROM THE REQUIREMENTS OF 10 CFR PART 74.19(c) (TAC NO. MD7788)
Dear Mr. Ridenoure:
Enclosed is a copy of the Environmental Assessment and Finding of No Significant Impact related to your application dated January 14, 2008 to the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission, requesting an exemption from the physical inventory requirements in Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations (10 CFR) Part 74 Section 74.19(c) for San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station (SONGS), Unit 3. The regulation requires, in part, that a physical inventory be conducted of all special nuclear material at intervals not to exceed 12 months.
The exemption applies to 12 irradiated fission chambers removed from SONGS Unit 3 in 1995 and in storage at the plant.
The Environmental Assessment is being forwarded to the Office of the Federal Register for publication.
