Dear Ms. Gray:

This is in response to your April 12, 2011, letter in which you requested a presentation by the NRC to the Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors. The purpose of the presentation would be to explain the seismic risks known to the Diablo Canyon Power Plant and the design of the facility. You also asked that the NRC describe the facilitys capability to address the types of problems experienced at the Fukushima Power Plant.

We can accommodate your request during the week of June 13, 2011. The NRCs primary responsibility is to ensure the adequate protection of the public health and safety of the American people. Toward that end, we have been very closely monitoring the activities in Japan and reviewing all currently available information. Review of this information, combined with our ongoing inspection and licensing oversight, give us confidence that all U.S. plants continue to operate safety. I look forward to meeting with you and the other board members.

Sincerely,

/RA/

Anton Vegel, Director Division of Reactor Safety
