CORRECTION-INSPECTION REPORT 50-272/91-04 AND 50-311/91-04 SALEM GENERATING STATION, *uNIT NOS. 1 AND 2 FACILITY OPERATING LICENSES DPR-70 AND DPR-75 DOCKET NOS. 50-272 AND 50-311 Public Service Electric and Gas Company (PSE&G) is in receipt of the subject inspection report ref erring to a rouiine inspecti6n conducted by Mr. M. c. Modes of the NRC Mobile Nondestructive Examination Laboratory at our Salem Generating Station,.

Units 1 and 2 on February 4-15, 1991. PSE&G appreciates the constructive input and NDE insights provided by NRC's Mobile Laboratory personnel during the inspection period. We wish to thank Region I Engineering Branch for providing PSE&G the opportunity to present an overview of our Service Water System (SWS) Piping Replacement Program, sws Inspection Program, and main elements of our SWS Structural Integrity Review. We are pleased to see that the inspection agrees with the results of our own SWS Structural Integrity Review -that our Service Water Programs provide reasonable assurance of system integrity and that the system *will function as intended during a design basis event. In the course of reviewing the inspection report, we found that two statements regarding our replacement schedule for certain portions of the SWS piping did not accurately represent our stated plans. We discussed these inaccuracies with Mr. Modes and, to eliminate any confusion, would like to formally correct the two statement ori page 6 of the Inspection Report, the last sentence of the first paragraph should read, "They.are planning to replace both Auxiliary Building Supply and Return Headers to Room Coolers and Lube Oil Coolers within 2 years". On the top of page 7, the continuation of the last sentence on page 6 should be changed to read, " ... Unit 2 has _already been replaced with plans to replace all the piping in the diesel generators of both units within the next 2 to 3 years" . *
