On 03/26/2014,  a dead juvenile green sea turtle was recovered from the Crystal River fossil-fueled Units 1&2 screen wash basket. A necropsy has been completed and Environmental Services has concluded that the death was causally-related to the operation of Crystal River fossil Units 1 &2. Although the fatality of the green sea turtle is not associated with the operation or decommissioning activities at Crystal River Unit 3's (CR-3's) permanently defueled nuclear plant, CR-3's Environmental Technical Specifications require all causally-related fatalities of endangered sea turtles on Crystal River Energy Complex intake structures (fossil Units 1 or 2 or CR-3) be reported to the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.
Notification to the NMFS will be made.
This is reportable per 10CFR50.72(b)(2)(xi) as an event for which notification to other government agencies will be made.
The licensee notified the NRC Resident Inspector. Notified R2DO (Guthrie) and NRR Endangered Species Branch.
