Dear Mr. Saporito:
This is a periodic status update regarding your petition dated December 5, 2009, as supplemented by portions of your petition dated August 6, 2010, regarding Florida Power Corporation (the licensee) at Crystal River Nuclear Generating Plant, Unit 3 (CR-3). This email fulfills the guidance in Management Directive 8.11, Review Process for 10 CFR 2.206 petitions, for period status updates.
As you know, Duke Energy is retiring the CR-3. Duke submitted letters confirming cessation of power operations, and the permanent removal of fuel from the reactor vessel on February 20, 2013.
The NRC staff is finalizing the proposed Directors Decision at this time. Due to conflicts with other high priority tasks, the expected issuance date for the proposed Directors Decision has been extended to January 2014 from December 2013. I appreciate your patience as we work to complete the review of your petition.
