In the Matter of                                                                Docket No. 50-259 Tennessee          Valley Authority BROWNS FERRY NUCLEAR PLANT                              (BFN) - SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION REGARDING GENERIC LETTER (GL) 89-19'EQUEST FOR ACTION RELATED TO RESOLUTION OF UNRESOLVED SAFETY ISSUE A-47 ssSAFETY IMPLICATION OF CONTROL SYSTEMS IN LWR NUCLEAR POWER PLANTS" The purpose            of this letter is to supplement TVA's previous responses to GL 89-19 regarding the engineering calculations status for BFN Unit 1.
TVA letter to NRC dated May 4, 1990, (Reference 1) provided NRC with TVA's initial response to GL 89-19.                                      In this letter, TVA committed to NRC                      that      "TVA      will    finalize  the  engineering calculations that will                        form      the    basis  for the  setpoints  for the high        vessel          feedwater          level      switches. These  calculations will be completed for units 1, 2, and 3 prior to restart                                      of the    respective            units."          This      commitment      was  repeated  in TVA's revised response to GL 89-19 (Reference 2).
In response to an NRC request for additional information (Reference 3), TVA informed NRC that BFN would not be adding Technical Specification requirements for the reactor vessel overfill protection system. Additionally, this letter incorrectly stated that BFN had satisfied the requirements of GL 89-19 and that this issue was closed for BFN.                                      At the time TVA submitted this letter to NRC, the above commitment regarding the engineering calculations was only complete for Units 2 and 3. The commitment is still open for Unit l.

1 Tennessee Valley Authority, Post Olfice Box 2000, Decatur, Alabama 35609 July 26,'995 U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission ATTN: Document Control Desk Washington, D.C. 20555 Gentlemen:

U.b. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Page 2 July 26, 1995 Therefore, TVA is informing NRC that GL 89-19 is closed for BFN Units 2 and 3, only. This issue will be closed for Unit 1, prior to restart, upon completion of the commitment regarding the engineering calculations for the high feedwater level switches.
