St.LucieUnit2,Cycle5StartuPhsicsTestinReortTheregionGfuelassembliespreservetheactivefuellength,plenumvolume,andthe2.147inchshouldergap.BatchGassembliesprovideincreaseddebrisresistancewithlongersolidlowerendcapswhilestillbeingcompatiblewithotherCEassemblies.TheCycle5coreloadingmapisrepresentedinFigure1.TheassemblyserialnumbersandControlElementAssemblyIDnumbersaregivenforeachcorelocation.FollowingthefuelshuffleandpriortotheapproachtocriticalityCEAdroptestswereperformed.Theobjectiveofthist'estwastomeasurethetraveltimefromthefullywithdrawnposition(UEL)tothe,907insertedpositionunderhotfullflowconditions,aswellastoverifycorrectoperationoftheCEApositionindicationsystem.TheaverageCEAdroptimewasfoundtobe2.74'secondswithamaximumandminumumtimeof2.92secondsand2.56secondsrespectively,AlldroptimeswerewithintherequirementsofTechnicalSpecification3.1.3.4.III.AroachtoCriticalitTheapproachtocriticalitywasinitiatedbydilutingfromanon-criticalBoronconcentrationof2022ppmtoapredictedcriticalBoronconcentrationof1659ppm.InversecountrateratioplotsweremaintainedduringthedilutionprocessandareshowninFigures2&3.AplotofBoronconcentrationversusdilutiontimeisprovidedinFigure4.Table2delineatesthedilutionrate,initialandfinalBoronconcentrations,andelapsedtimes.InitialCriticalityforSt.LucieUnit2Cycle5wasachievedat2225onApril23,1989withCEAGroup5at55incheswithdrawnandallotherCEAsfullywithdrawn.IV.ZeroPowerPhsicsTestinThetestsperformedduringtheZeroPowerTestingPrograminclude:1.ReactivityComputerCheckout2.UnroddedCriticalBoronConcentration3.ModeratorTemperatureCoefficientMeasurement4.CEAworthmeasurmentsThesetestsareperformedinaccordancewiththeANSIstandard19.6.1,includingacceptancecriteriaunlesssupercededbyTechnicalSpecifications.

St.LucieUnit2,Cycle5StartuPhs'icsTestinReortThereareseveralchecksdonetoensureproperfunctioningoftheReactivityComputer.TheReactorpowerlevel/fluxisadjustedsuchthatalltestingisconductedabovethenoiselevelandbelowthepointofaddingnuclearheat.Furtherverificationoftheproperoperationofthereactivitycomputerwasaccomplishedthroughmeasuringboththepositiveandnegativereactorperiodsbyaddingknownamountsofpositiveornegative,reactivity.CThemeasuredunroddedCriticalBoronConcentrationwasdeterminedtobe1705ppm.ThepredictedunroddedCritical'oronConcentrationwas1687ppm.Themeasuredvaluewaswellwithinthe+100ppmofthepredictionacceptancecriterion.TheARO,HZPModeratorTemperatureCoefficientwascalculatedfrommeasureddata,tobe3.65pcm/oF,ThissatisfiesTech.Spec.3.1.1.4a.whichrequiresthattheMTCshallbelesspositivethan5pcm/oF.ThemeasuredMTCwasalsowellwithinthelimit'f+2pcm/oFofthedesignMTCvalueof3.37pcm/oF.TheRodWorthmeasurementswereperformedemployingtheRodSwapmethodology.TheintegralworthoftheReferenceBank,CEAgroupB,wasdeterminedbyboration/dilution.TheintegralworthsofthetestgroupsweredeterminedbyexchangewiththeReferenceBank.AcomparisonofthemeasuredanddesignCEAgroupintegralworthsisprovidedinTable3.Thefollowingacceptancecriteriaforrodworthmeasurementsweremet.1.ThemeasuredvalueofeachtestCEAgroupworthsiswithin+15Kor+100pcmofthedesignworth,whicheverisgreater.2.ThemeasuredworthoftheReferenceGroupandthetotalworthforalltheCEAgroupsmeasurediswithin+107.ofthetotaldesignworth.V.PowerAscensionFluxmapsfromthefixedincoredetectorsystemswereusedtoverifytheabsenceofabnormalitiesinthecorepowerdistribution,peakingfactors,andtiltatthe25,50,80,andgreaterthanorequalto98percentpowerplateaus.NuclearanddeltaTpowercalibrationsandamanualcalorimetriccheckwereperformedateachofthepowerplateaus.AsummaryoftheresultsofthefluxmappingateachpowerlevelisgiveninFigures5,6,7,and8.
