1.0INTRODUCTION
TheJune1981tendonsurveillanceprogramispresentedindetail.Theprogramincludestheliftoffoffourteen(14)tendonsincludingthefour(4)tendonswithloadcells.Thedatacollectionsystemrequiredwillnotonlyconfirmtheliftoffdata,butitwillalsoobtaindataneededtocontinuetheinvestigationintothelargerthanpredictedtendonlosses.TheinspectionandselectionprocessdiscussedintheProposedRevision3toUSNRCRegulatoryGuide1.35arefollowed.Themeasuredforceforeachtendonwillbeevaluatedwithrespecttoitspredictedlowerlimitforcediscussedinthisguide.ThesepredictedlowerlimitforcesareobtainedusingthelosscalculationmethodologydescribedintheProposedUSNRCRegulatoryGuide1.35Positionl.2.0OBJECTIVES,TheJune,1981surveillanceprogramisrequiredtoverifythatthetendonforcesarewithinthetechnicalspecificationsandtoprovidefurtherinformationastowhytendonshaveexperiencedprestresslossesinexcessoftheirpredictedvalues.Thissurveillanceprogramasoutlinedhereinhasfourobjectives:1~Tomeasurelift-offforcesinselectedtendons.2.Tocomparelift-offforceswiththosepredicted,usingeithertheexistingrelaxationdataand/orretensionedwiredatafromthetestingcurrentlyunderwayatLehighUniversity.3.Tocomparethetwoforcemeasuringsystems:a.Straingagedstressingrod.
1W b.Pressuregaugeandeffectiveramarea.4.Totestthe6%overstresseffect.ThefollowingsurveillanceprogramisintendedforuseonlyinJune'1981.Itisexpectedthatthedetaildatagatheringproposedwillnotbenecessaryonsubsequentsurveillances.3.0TENDONSELECTION3.1Thetendonselectionprocesswill:1.Verifythattendonforcelosseshavestabilized..2.Surveyenoughtendonstoextendpresentdatabase.3.Includeallfourtendonswithloadcells.4.Includetendonsretensionedat1000hoursafterinitialstressing.5.Includetendonsfromeachtendonmarkcategory.3.2Table1containsthecompletelistofselectedtendons.3~3Toverifythatthetendonforcelosshasstabilized,-tendons62and76areselectedbecausetheyexperiencedlargelossesduringthefirsteleven(ll)years.Tendon51isselectedasanaveragelosstendonand155asaminimallosstendon.3.4Toextendthedatabase,tendons17and84areselectedbecausetheyeachhavefour(4)recordeddatapoints.3.5Loadcellsarepresentundertendons13,53,93,and133,therefore,theseareselectedforsurveillance.Tendons133and13willbeusedtoevaluatethe6/overstresseffect.

4.3GeneralInstructions1.Fillinline1-4onthedatasheet(SeeAppendixI)andrecordcommentsfromthevisualinspectiononline5.2.Moveassembledhydraulicjacktopositionforcouplingtotheanchorheadandplacethepumpinaconvenientlocationforoperation.a.Carefullythreadstressingadaptorontotendonanchorhead.Note:Leaveaminimumofonethreadandmaximumofthreethreadsontendonanchorexposedbelowtheloweredgeofthestressingadaptor.b.Placejackassembly,ontendonbaseplate.c.Centerjackchaircarefullyovertendonheadandthreadstressingrodintostressingadaptor.d.Centercompressionshimsandtightenjackrodnutattop(ram)endofjackbeingcarefulnottodamagestraingagedareaandtheelectricalconnectorontopofthe,jackrod.3.Maketheappropriatestraingageconnectionsandcheckformalfunctions.4.Beforeattachinghosestojackforthefirsttendon,checkpumpandhosesbyperformingthefollowing:a.Setvalvestopumpposition.b.Startpumpatthesametimedepresstheballvalve.
c.Pumpslowlytofillhosewithoiluntilitcomesoutofthehosefreeofbubbles.d.Releaseballvalveandstartpumpingagain.Continuepumping;hosewillbecomestiff;gaugepressurewillriserapidlyandthenholdconstant.5.Reducepressureandconnecthosestojack.6.Recordallinitialreadingsintheappropriatecolumnsonthedatasheet.7.Startpumpandincreasepressureto2,000psi.a.Recordstressingrodreadingincolumn3aondatasheet.b.Recordload'ellreadingincolumn4aonthedatasheetiftendonhasloadcell.c.Recordrampositionininchesincolumn5ondatasheet.d.Calculateandrecordforcevaluesforthestressingrod,pressuregaugeandloadcell.8.Increasepressureupto4,000psiandhold.a.Inspectforleakageofhydraulicfluidandnoteifleakageisexcessive.b.Recordstressingrodandloadcell(iftendonhasloadcell)-readingsintheappropriatecolumnsonthedatasheet.c.Calculateandrecordforceforthestressingrod,pressuregaugeandloadcell.
