A I am Gonmn L. Reynolds and I live at Rt. #2, Box 69, Csenmnn, Ohio.

2. Q What is your occupation?

A I have been a journepmn millwright for six yer.rs.

3. Q What was yeaIr position at the Zi::mer Nuclear Power Station?

A I was millwright general foramn fras October,1978 te February,1979.

4. Q Describe what you and your crew did to the control rods.

A We were required to clean metal shavings fran the cuubel red blades.

We fdrst took old cloths wrapped with a heavy gray t'ne und beat the sides of the blades to renove these shavings. 5e thc2 ran a ungnet along then folltsed bv a wMne sbop vaaran cleaner and finally wiped then down with an acetone solution.

5. Q What else did you do?

A In February, R.C.I. required my crew to do grinding an all the centrol rods (at the bottan of the blades) to re:rve an over--sized weld.

6. Q What did you observe?

A Amil -atal frag:nents fran the grinding went into the control rod blades by way of snall boles uing the length of then.

7. Q Did ycu infcnn anycne?

8. Q What were you told to do?

A When I infonned R.C.I. engineers of this I was told tlat these f.wts could clcg the rods and to wipe then down with an acetone solution.

9. Q Was this the proper procedure?

A No. I told my supervisors tht wiping with acetone alone did not get the shavings out. (The proper procedure for rmoving shavings uns the procedure we initially used to renove those left by the =anufacturer.)

10. Q Did the rods pass inspection anyway?

A Yes, the rods were inspected and passed anywny.
