RECEIPT AND AVAILABILITY OF THE LICENSE RENEWAL APPLICATION FOR THE CRYSTAL RIVER UNIT 3 NUCLEAR GENERATING PLANT

Dear Mr. Young:

On December 18, 2008, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) received the Florida Power Corporations application for renewal of operating license (Operating License No.

DPR-72) for the Crystal River Unit 3 Nuclear Generating Plant. We are currently performing an acceptance review for docketing in accordance with the requirements of Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations Section 2.101 (10 CFR 2.101), and will notify you of the results of our review. Should the NRC staff determine that the application is acceptable for docketing, a schedule for the review will then be provided to you.

We have enclosed for your information a copy of the notice relating to your application that is being sent to the Office of the Federal Register for publication.

I am pleased to announce the appointment of Robert F. Kuntz as the project manager for your license renewal application. Please forward copies of all license renewal correspondence to Mr. Kuntz. Ms. Farideh Saba continues to remain responsible for the project management of all issues other than license renewal for Crystal River Unit 3 Nuclear Generating Plant.
