Ladies and Gentlemen, This letter transmits the Duke Energy response to the NRC's Request for Additional Information (RAI) regarding Relief Request No. 17-0N-001 (Reference 1) for Oconee Units 1 and 2. Duke Energy submitted the Relief Request on October 3, 2017 and the NRC determined clarification was needed to Section 3 "Applicable Code Requirements" to finalize their review.

Section 3 of Relief Request 17-0N-001 included a note that attempted to maintain the Relief Request's applicability should a new revision of Code Case N-770 be mandated by 10 CFR 50.55a in the future. However, the NRC staff was unclear if 10 CFR 50.55a allows such a note and requested that Duke clarify the note. In order to simplify the Section 3 content, Duke Energy is providing the following response to this RAI:

Please remove the entire note from Section 3. This will clarify that the pertinent Code requirement for this Relief Request is currently contained in Code Case N-770-2.

If there are any questions or further information is needed you may contact David Haile of Oconee Regulatory Affairs at (864) 873-4742.

Sincerely, tt~~~:t-H. Todd Grant General Manager, Nuclear Engineering Oconee Nuclear Station
