SUMMARY

South Texas Project Unit 1 began the reporting period shutdown for refueling.

On April 12, during a scheduled boric acid inspection of the reactor coolant and associated systems, small deposits of boric acid were discovered on two (2) of the fifly-eight (58) bottom mounted instrumentation penetrations on the reactor pressure vessel. The investigation results indicate primary reactor coolant as the likely source of the residue.

The unit remained out of service following refueling to continue the investigation to determine the root cause, identify non-destructive examination methods and evaluate repair options.
