RP Name:

DRP Detected by ORISE HPs in SU12204A

==

Description:==

On 12/05/19, at approximately 1455, ORISE HPs detected activity greater than the background in Survey Unit (SU) 12204A while performing gamma scans. The material was excavated, and a discrete radioactive particle was identified. The particle was collected in a bag with soil. The initial reading using a 2350 meter and a 4410-gamma detector showed 503K CPM; using an M3/GM detector showed 600K CPM, and using a Telepole, dose rates showed 6.5 mrem/hr at contact and <0.1 mrem/hr at 30 cm.

The DRP was taken to Chemistry for isotopic analysis. qualitative results showed Co 60 9.87E+05 pCi/unit.

Immediate Actions:

DRP was captured and assessed using portable instrumentation then sent to chemistry for qualitative isotopic analysis.

Recommended Actions:

Review for 10CFR50.75g.

The DRP was removed leaving no residual contamination and is considered remediated; therefore, does not meet the intent of 10CFR50.75g(1).
