Description:

1Small Piece of Concrete Above Background was Detected by ORISE On 12/03/19, while performing confirmatory surveys in survey unit (SU), 10209C ORISE HPs detected a concrete piece weighing 283 grams. The concrete piece was discovered approximately two inches below the ground surface. The initial survey with a 2350 instrument and a model 4410 gamma detector with a three-inch collimator. The reading was 38.3K CPM. The average background in the area was 2.9K CPM. A Telepole was used to determine dose rates and showed 0.1 mrRem/hr.

Immediate Actions:

The particle was captured and sent to chemistry. An isotopic analysis was performed with the following results: Co 60 2.69E+02 pCi/units, and Cs 137 1.21E+05S&LXQLWV

Recommended Actions:

Review for 10CFR50.75g The concrete was removed leaving no residual contamination and are considered remediated; therefore, does not meet the intent of 10CFR50.75g(1).
