Dear Mr. Miraglia:

The attachment to this letter provides ECN 0775, Revision 1 (Secondary Waste Water Systems Modification) as committed by the District during a meeting held in Bethesda, Maryland on March 3, 1987.

This submittal supplements Special Report 84-07 which provided short-term and long-term corrective actions in response to exceeding the limits of 10CFR20.405(c) and 40CFR190 in 1984.

In Special Report 84-07, the District proposed constructing two eight-acre evaporation ponds for the disposal of regenerant waste water as a means of preventing offsite release of radioactive liquid effluents.

The Evaporation Pond Proposal was subsequently withdrawn when the District decided to release offsite within the guidelines of 10CFR50 Appendix 1.

The District wishes to emphasize that the design bases of the current modification to the Secondary Waste Water System that is described in this submittal is not intended to be equivalent to that of the evaporation ponds.

The only relationship between ECN 0775 and the Evaporation Pond Proposal is that the segregation plans for clean and potentially contaminated waste waters that were originally included in the Evaporation Pond Proposal were also used as the initial design starting point for ECN 0775.
