Dear Sir:
In accordance with the requirements of Title 10, Chapter 1, Ccde of Federal Regulations, Part 21 Transamerica Delaval hereby notifier the commission of a potential defect in a component of the DSRV standby diesel generator.
There exists a potential problem in the link rod assembly which could result in engine non-availability. The defe:t in manufacturing is limited to the model DSRV 12, DSRV 16, and DSRV 20 built before February 1980.
'[
Transamerica Delaval has supplied the DSRV series engines to the following sites:
0 b-484*
- 1. Middle South Energy, Grand Gulf Nuclear Station! SN 74033/36 DSRV 16 160-4th
- 2. Duke Power, Catawba Station SN 75017/20 DSRV 16

- 11. Tennessee Valley Authority, Rogersville Station SN 77032/35 DSRV 16 The units at Southern California Edison are the only units operating at this time.
The potential defect is that the dowel counterbore in the link rod, which is manufactured by Transamerica Delaval, may be too shallow. This defect can be found by visual inspection. Any link rod which has the couterbore l
too shallow will be replaced. A defective link rod could lead to link rod bolt failure if uncorrected. For any link rod that is replaced, the bolts will also be replaced.
