,e NRC STAFF COMMENTS ON DRAFT " TASK ONE REPORT-6 ON VOLUMES AND CHARACTERISTICS OF HIGHLY RADI0 ACTIVE WASTES TO BE SHIPPED IN THE FUTURE" The following comments refer to section 4.3, second paragraph.

Second sentence. He understand that the largest volume of waste is likely to be generated by decontamination of water spilled in the auxiliary building.

Third sentence. Consider referring to " sludges" rather than " evaporation sludges." Although it is discussed in the references, an evaporation process likely will not be used.

Fourth sentence. Current information suggests that the highest activity wastes will result from cleanup' of the containment system building and primary system water by loading of zeolites in demineralizater cartridges, with initial projections showing up to 60,000 Ci or 7500 C1/ft3 . [This is based on NUREG-0796, June 1981. Table 12, pages 3-23.]

Fifth sentence. Consider revising this sentence to one such as: " Experience through November 1981 suggests that loadings might be 15 or 20% lower."

Next-to-last sentence. Consider an update along the following lines:

"The 60,000 Ci of radioactivity projected in the zeolites is estimated to be principally Cs,-137 with approximately 5% Sr-90."

Tabl e 4-5. Consider revising this table to reflect the information in NUREG-0683, [ final version, issued March 1981) table 7.7 and possibly table 7.5.
