Dear Mr. Fox:

This letter is presented on behalf of our members of Local Union 457, International l

Brotherhood of Electrical Workers AFL-CIO, and in consideration of the entire staff at 1 Connecticut Yankee Atomic Power Company.

We would respectfully request in your deliberations as to the future of the Connecticut '

Yankee Plant, you consider the proud and dedicated employees and the Plant's intrinsic value to the State of Connecticut and the local area. Please consider the fact that while operating safely and reliably for nearly thirty years, Connecticut Yankee has set several national and worldwide operational records for continuous operation. Consider the fact l that while doing this, Connecticut Yankee has been a good neighbor of the local J community, as have it's employees. Connecticut Yankee and it's employees have done all this so successfully in fact, that many people in the Middlesex County area weren't aware the Plant existed until the recent publicity surrounding the Millstone Complex and the subsequent aftershock that situation has created at Connecticut Yankee. This historical lack oflocal notoriety may in itself be one of the best measurements of success of Connecticut Yankee. '

It must also be noted that Connecticut Yankee has not historically had the problems communicating Nuclear Safety Issues. Our members at Connecticut Yankee have always enjoyed the benefit of a more open environment in which they have been able to voice concerns or differences of opinion openly to management without fear of reprisal.

It has always been the goal of the Local Union to work towards the successful and safe operation and maintenance of Connecticut Yankee while striving for an atmosphere of mutual respect.

L W.e, as a Local Union, are encouraged by the appointment of Bruce Kenyon as the President of Nuclear Operations. His proven background and his presentation to all the Connecticut Yankee employees has been well received, and we are hopeful his leadership {

and his stated goals will turn the present unfortunate situation around so that Connecticut Yankee can recapture it's proud position in the Nuclear Industry. We agree wholeheartedly with Mr. Kenyon's philosophy of"doing the right thing" with regards to  :

the operation and maintenance of the plant. Our members have always felt that this is paramount in order to insure the safety of the public, the employees, the plant, and in the end is the most cost efTective means to ensure a fair return to our shareholders. Our members have always sought to operate and maintain the plant to the highest standard.

Local Union 457 looks forward to meeting with Mr. Kenyon and formally pledging our ,

cooperation in support of the continued operation of Connecticut Yankee.  ;

This letter is being respectfully submitted for consideration to the Board of Trustees of l Connecticut Yankee Atomic Power Company. I i

Sincerely,

/
