l The Atomic Energy Commissicn is considering issuance ,

j of an amendment to the license held by Saxten Nuclear I Experimental Cc rporation to authorite a temporary increase l I of pcwer for the Saxton Nuclear Experimental Reactor at Saxton, fennsylvania, about 20 miles coutheast of Altoona.

l I The pressurised wate r react or has been cperative at l l a power level of 23 5 megawatts thermal using its a .ond fuel core. The cor.rany har requested authorisation to increase the maximum power level to 35 megawatta during the remainder of the lifetir.e of Core II, approximately ten weeks. The objective of the higher power operation is to gain information about pressurized water reactor fuel under operating conditions planned for future reactors.

The AEC Wgulat ory Staff and the Commission's Advisory
