Dear Mr. Case:

Paregisph 20.203 (e)(2) of Atmie Energy Counission Regulation 10 CFR 20, Standards for Protection against Radiation, requires that entry into a high radiation area as defined in the regulation aball be indicated by a visible or audible alam signal. Sinoe that time two additional areas wiWin W restrieted area have boomaa high radiation areas. These i.coms are 2e radioassive waste handling area and the radiometive waste filiad dr u storage area.

The radiometive waste "14=n ares has leaked doore. The filled drum storage area is a restangular earthen dike with railrona tio eribbing en the inser sides for support and to provide version 1 valls. The top of the dihe is eight (8) feet above smde level. A gate has been insta11=d at the one ground level entrenee to the storage area. A forty (40) ineh high five strand baubed wire fense is being installed amund the top of the dike to stop entry to the area by way of the top.

Kars to high radiation areas will be maintained in the physical sustady of ei%er the Remotor Plant Superviser en duty or a seier plant superviser.

We believe that proper posting and restrictin tooess to these high radiation areas will comply with the intent of paragraph 20.203s (g)(2). In our opinion the granting of his e m ption will not result in an undue hasard to life or property and will ensure more safety than that which would be provided by following only the letter of 10 CFR 20.
