This letter is to infom you of the corrective action taken with respect to the ittr of noncompliance cited in the reference letter.

The waste drums in question hsve been identified and properly markod for the observed levels of radiation. A gate has been inctalled at the entrance to the filled drum storage area, This cate will be locked by means of a padlock and the I

key to the lock will be maintasned in the physical custody of either the Senior Plant Supervisors or the Reactor Plts.t Supervicor on duty. A high radiation area sicn has been posted on the gate.

The filled drum storage area is a rectangular earthen dike area within the restricted area with railroad tic cribbing on the inner side for support and to provide vertical wallu. The top of the dike is eight (8) feet above grade level. A forty (40) inch high five strand barbed wire fence will be installed around the top of the dike to stop entrec v to the storage area by way of the top. .'. high radiation area sign will be posted oa cach of the four legs of the fence. The material for the, fence has been j procured and erection is scheduled for the week of May 11.

It is our opinion that the fence around the top of the four sided enclosure, a locked gate, and administrative control of the key to the lock on the gate will provide adequate protection against unauthorized entry into the filled drum storage l area. We are requesting from the Atomic Energy Connission by separate letter this i date an exenption from that part of paragraph 20.203 (c)(2) requiring a visible or i audible signal. A copy of this letter is attached for your infomation.
