This letter is in re'sponse to Mr.'. Schwencer's letter of April 18, 1980 concerning the evaluation of the ultimate strength of the containment buildings of the Donald C. Cook Nuclear Plant.

Dr. G. A. Harstead, the NRC consultant, requested a meeting which took place in our New York offices on May 12, -1980. Most of the pertinent infor-

'ation he requested has been given to Dr. Harstead, including containment design drawings, construction specifications, containment structural integrity test reports, and the applicable sections of the Plant's FSAR. The certified mill test reports of the materials used for the containment liner and the reinforcing bars will be sent to Dr. Harstead.

Your letter noted that this evaluation of the Cook Plant is being performed to determine the ultimate strength capacity of the containment structure when the effect of hydrogen burning is added to the other design loads. We are interested in your study and we request being advised by the NRC of the on-going work on both hydrogen generation and containment capacity studies. .We would also like to have an opportunity to review and comment on the results prior to them being made final.
