Dear Mr. Case:

Transmitted herewith are 30 copies of the *draft of the description

_and evaluation of Dresden Unit 3 emergency core cooling provisions.

These copies are being forwarded in response to your request to permit review of the material before the August 5, 1966 meeting of the ACRS.

At such time as emergency core cooling provisions appear to be mutually acceptable, the PD & AR will be amended accordingly *

. The provisions for emergency core cooling described in this report

~4iffer in certain respects from those previously presented. A more detailed evaluation of the core flooding requirements has revealed mechanical and capacity concerns which has resulted in our conclusion that the two-core spray system is the preferred method. Additionally, the high pressure coolant injection system has been increased in

  • capacity to provide overlap in various cooling modes.

If additional information is required, we will be available for assis-tance.

Very truly yours, F. A. Hollenbach Project Manager Dresden Units 2 and 3 ,Projects i
