On August 6-9, 2012, Mr. Robert Evans of NRC Region IV visited your site for the purpose of conducting a routine decommissioning safety inspection. Accompanying Mr. Evans was Dr. D.

Blair Spitzberg, Chief of the Fuels Safety and Decommissioning Branch in Region IV and three decommissioning representatives from the Iraq Ministry of Environment, Radiological Protection Centre: Mr. Shaker Hamed Rayiss Al-Ani, Mr. Hayder Hussein Hadi Eesee, and Mr. Ahmed Adil Shihab Al-Tameemi. The three Iraqi representatives were being supported by the International Atomic Energy Agency to observe the NRC inspection processes associated with active decommissioning sites. Details of this visit had been arranged with your staff in advance.

During the visit to your site, the Iraq delegation was afforded the opportunity to gain useful information and insights from your decommissioning activities as they observed our inspection process. Your staff was very accommodating and helpful in explaining your activities and sharing information that the Iraqis will draw upon in regulating the safe decommissioning of a number of nuclear facilities in Iraq.

On behalf of the NRC, I would like to thank you and your staff for welcoming the Iraq delegation to your site and for sharing your expertise and experience with them.
