RE: Visit to UMD

Dear Mohamad,

We are in the process of formulating our follow up questions to be discussed during our Friday meeting. A number of them relate to the operation of the ventilation system and the impact that it has on routine effluents and releases during accident to both occupational workers and the public. Doses for both ventilation on (operating) and off (shutdown) cases need to be addressed. Please note that the Argon-41 and MHA releases assume a stack release, that is the ventilation system is on during operation. Some of the RAIs that are being affected are RAI 8 (doses with ventilation system off should be evaluated). Also, in RAI 12 and RAI 13 the impact of building leakage should be evaluated. In addition, your response to RAI 12 states that TS 3.5.1 will be revised to reflect these conditions (confinement not airtight). However, you do not provide the revision.

Because of the above considerations Al and I think that the presence of your radiation safety officer or HP personnel in the meeting would be very constructive.

Over the next couple days, I will e-mail you additional comments on your responses to our RAIs prior to our Fridays meeting.

Sincerely, Spyros Traiforos

Visit to UMD

Mohamad, I just left a message in your voice mail regarding a meeting that Jessie, Al and I would like to have with you, Gary and Vince regarding your responses to the Tech Spec RAIs and discuss areas that still need to be addressed. Jessie would like to have this meeting as soon as possible at UMD so that we can continue the progress that has been made so far. Because of certain restrictions from our end, we would like to meet with you on Friday, February 18. We hope that you can accommodate our visit. Please let us know what time is preferable to you.

Thank you, Spyros 301-415-3965
