Subject:

University of Maryland, Maryland University Training Reactor

("MUTR"), DocketNo. 50-166, License No. R-70 Request for an Extension of Time The University of Maryland respectfully requests an extension of time from March 18, 2011 to May 2, 2011 to submit our final proposed Technical Specifications document and our responses to the technical specification Requests for Additional Information that are listed in your email of March 4, 2011 summarizing our February 18, 2011 meeting.

We agreed at that meeting to provide the DBNR calculation for the hottest location in the MUTR core but noted we would have to rely on GA for that information. We are still waiting to here from GA. The University Radiation Safety Office is handling the dose calculations (RAI-8, RAI-10 and RAI-12) which are not yet completed. Once we receive the calculations, we will need time to review them before forwarding them to you. I wish to note the University is closed from March 21 - March 24.

I declare under penalty of perjury that the foregoing is true and correct.

Mohamad Al-Sheikhly Professor and Director Maryland University Training Reactor cc: Robert Briber
