UNIVERSITY OF MARYLAND - CORRECTION TO TRANSMITTAL LETTER OF DETERMINATION OF ACCEPTABILITY AND SUFFICIENCY FOR DOCKETING AND OPPORTUNITY FOR A HEARING REGARDING THE APPLICATION FOR RENEWAL OF FACILITY LICENSE NO. R-70 FOR MARYLAND UNIVERSITY TRAINING REACTOR (TAC NO. ME1592)
Dear Dr. Al-Sheikhly:
On July 26, 2010 the U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission issued a cover letter which included the Determination of Acceptability and Sufficiency for Docketing and Opportunity for a Hearing Regarding the Application for Renewal of Facility License No. R-70 for Maryland University Training Reactor (Tac No. ME1592). This letter is to correct the transmittal letter and eliminate a supplement which contained information included in other supplements, and to indicate that in two of the supplemental dates, two, not one, supplements were submitted. Please replace the letter dated July 26, 2010 and refer to this letter in the future regarding the Determination. The Federal Register Notice included in the original letter is correct as transmitted, therefore will not be included with this correction as the correction only pertained to the transmittal letter.
By letter dated May 12, 2000, as supplemented by letters dated June 7, August 4, September 17, and October 7, 2004; April 18, 2005; April 25 (two letters), August 28 (two letters), November 9, and December 18, 2006; and May 27, 2010, the University of Maryland submitted an application to the U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) for renewal of Facility Operating License No. R-70 for the Maryland University Training Reactor (MUTR).
Based on initial review of the application, the NRC staff determined that UMD submitted sufficient information such that the application is acceptable for docketing in accordance with Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations, Section 50.33 and 50.34. However, the NRC staffs determination does not preclude requests for additional information as the review proceeds.
Enclosed is a copy of the Notice of Acceptance for Docketing and Opportunity for Hearing on the Application Regarding Renewal for an Additional 20-year Period for the MUTR and Order Imposing Procedures for Access to Safeguards Information and Sensitive Unclassified Non-Safeguards Information being sent to the Office of the Federal Register for publication. The notice provides the opportunity to request a hearing and to file a petition for leave to intervene.
