University of Maryland, Request the License Renewal for the Maryland University Training Reactor, Docket No. 50-166, License No. R-70 (TAC NO. ME 1592)

The University of Maryland respectfully requests an extension of time to submit its reply to Request #2 in the NRC's April 6, 2010 Request for Additional Information from August 31, 2010 to November 15, 2010.

The University has originally been told by the Idaho National Lab that it would be able to provide a response to Request #2 by August 31, 2010 and, based on that estimate, the University informed the NRC that a response to Request #2 would be submitted by that date. The University learned yesterday from General Atomic ("GA"), a company with which the Idaho National Lab contracted to prepare the response to Request #2, that GA will not be able to complete the work until the end of October 2010. The University would like time to review GA's response before the University submits it to the NRC and, therefore, requests an extension to November 15, 2010.

I greatly appreciate your consideration of this request.

I declare under penalty of perjury that the foregoing response is true and correct.

Sincerely, Mohamad A1-Sheikhly Professor and Director Maryland University Training Reactor Enclosure cc: Robert Briber
