Significant issues discussed as part of this program included design basis reconstitution and configuration management.

The status of the structural integrity program for safety related, large bore piping also was discussed.

En ineerin Pro ram Inte ration and Structural Inte rit of Safet Related Lar e Bore Pi in and Su orts On September 28, licensee representatives met with NRC management and staff at the NRC Region I office to provide an.update on ongoing activities in their engineeting program integration (EPI) initiative.

The status of the licensee's structural integrity program for safety related, large bore piping and pipe supports was included in the discussion.

A list of meeting attendees and a

copy of the licensee's presentation are attache'd.

r The licensee's engineering program integration effort is intended to integrate numerous engineering activities that are the result of regulatory requirements and industry and licensee initiatives.

The licensee has categorized these activities into four major groups:

(1) Design Basis Recovery and Configuration Management Upgrades; (2) Evaluation, Monitoring, and Maintenance of Plant Conditions; (3) Plant Reevaluations and Upgrades, and (4) Engineering Resources and Training Methodologies.

The licensee described their overall plans and schedules in these areas'he program for reconstituting the design basis will extend approx'.mately six years with systems being addressed based on safety priority and operational considerations.

The licensee indicated.that this effort will include a safety system functional inspection type approach.

As a result of a significant number of pipe support deficiencies identified during inservice inspections, the licensee initiated a program to reconstitute the design basis and configuration and to reevaluate the structural integrity of safety related, large bore pipe supports.

The'rogram included inspection of 1072 supports on 10 safety related piping systems in the ISI program.

Out of this population 6% rev'ealed structural concern's and all deficiencies were addressed through NCRs.

An additional 1916 non-ISI, safety-related large bore pipe. supports and small bore pipe supports were inspected and analyzed to demonstrate their compliance with the FSAR,structural commitmepts.

The results of this effort showed that all supports and systems inspected and analyzed satisfy FSAR allowables in their as-found condition, Conclusion The NRC stated that the licensee's program to integrate and coordinate engineer-ing activities appears to be a good initiative and encouraged continuing manage-ment support in this area.
