Attachment1toAEP:NRC:1181CPage2Thesmallestamountofmargin(extrapolatedtoAugust13,1994)atthelowtripsetpointis+0.71%onNPS-153basedontheJuly25,1988,calibrationdata.Thesmallest.amount.ofmargin(extrapolatedtoAugust13,1994)atthehightripsetpointis+0.50%,alsoonNPS-153basedontheJuly25,1988,calibrationdata.Allotherextrapolationsyieldedexcessmarginofatleast1.61%tothetripsetpoints.Basedontheresultsofthisanalysis,webelievethatthedriftassociatedwithNPP-153andNPS-153willbewithinourmaximumallowedpercentspanerror,bewithintherequiredmargintothetripsetpoints,andwillnotadverselyimpactthesafeoperationoftheplant.RTDCHANNELCALIBRATIONAsdescribedinAEP:NRC:1181,weareseekingrelieffromallT/SsurveillanceswhicharedependentontheRTDchannelcalibration.Table3providesinformationonthe'maximumallowedtemperaturedeviation(NarrowRange[NR]:21.2'FandWideRange[WR):f8.4'F)andonthedriftextrapolationmethodology.Tables3Aand3BcontainthemeasureddataforthepastthreesurveillanceintervalsontheNarrowRangeRTDsandWideRangeRTDs,respectively.Tables3Cand3DlisttheresultsofthedriftextrapolationcalculationsforNarrowRangeRTDsandWideRangeRTDs,respectively.ThedatapresentedintheMarch5,1989,columninTables3Cand3DshowthatalltemperaturedeviationsfortheNRandWRRTDsarewithinthemaximumalloweddeviation.Thisissignificantsincethetimeperiodbetweensurveillanceswasapproximately33months,orsevenmonthsgreaterthanthecurrentextensionthatwearerequesting.Intheothertwosurveillanceintervals,thereareafewextrapolateddriftdatapointswithvaluesoutsideourmaximumalloweddeviation.WebelievethesedatapointstobeinsignificantbecausetheRTDsareinherentlystableandourapplicationoflinearextrapolationtoestimatedriftisconservative,asfollows.Asmentionedbefore,thedriftmeasuredoverthe33monthintervalhadnotemperaturedeviationsexceedingourmaximumalloweddeviations.Sincethatintervalwasgreaterthantheintervalwearerequesting(26months),wedidnothavetoextrapolateanydatatoestimatethedrift.Also,comparisonofthemeasureddatafromJune1986toJune1992showsthatoverthesixyearintervalthemaximum"drift"fortheNRRTDswas1.08'F(RTD2-TE-421Bat250'F)andfortheWRRTDswas5.60'F(RTD2-TE-413Bat527'F),whichiswellwithinthemaximumalloweddeviation.ThisisanacceptablecomparisonsincethedatathatisbeingcomparedisdirectlyofftheRTDsandcannotbeadjustedfromonecycletothenext.Thus,basedonthe33monthintervalandasixyearintervalweshowthattheRTDsarestableandlinearextrapolationofthedataisconservative.Anotherfactorwhichwebelievecontributedtothefewextrapolateddriftdatapointsexceedingthemaximumalloweddeviationswasdifferencesintheindividuallooptemperatures.ThisisveryapparentuponexaminationoftheWRRTDsat350'Fand250'FduringOctober1990,wheretheindividualloopshavedeviationsofsimilarmagnitudesbutinoppositedirections.AlloftheextrapolateddriftdatapointswhichwereoutsidethemaximumalloweddeviationwereaffectedbytheOctober.1990data.Notethatthemeasureddeviationswereallwithinthemaximumalloweddeviationforthatsurveillance.

~l(p(I'IAttachment1toAEP:NRC:1181CPage3Finally,thestabilityoftheRTDsisevidentinthatoverthethreesurveillanceintervals,alloftheRTDsat527'F(closesttooperatingtemperature)hadanextrapolateddriftlessthanthemaximumalloweddeviation.Basedontheresultsofthisanalysis,webelievethatthedriftassociatedwiththeNarrowRangeandWideRangeRTDswillremainwithinourmaximumalloweddeviationandwillnotadverselyimpactthesafeoperationoftheplant.RVLISCalibrationWecannotprovideanydriftdataonRVLZSsincethetransmitterswerereplacedduringthemostrecent,refuelingoutageaspartofits10yearrecommendedreplacementfrequency.Evenwithoutthedriftdata,webelievethatwewouldbeawareofexcessivedriftthroughtheT/Srequiredmonthlychannelchecksperformedonthetwoindependenttrainsofindication.
