This refers to the tel'ephone conversation on February 9,1981 between Mr. R. D.
Machon, Nuclear Operations Manager-Pilgrim Station and members of his staff and Messrs. T. T. Martin, P. J. Knapp, J. R. Johnson and R. L. Nimitz of this office regarding the January 17, 1981 resin spill event at Pilgrim Unit 1.
With regard to the matters discussed, we understand that you have undertaken or will undertake the following action:
Condensate demineralizer resin additions will not be performed again until 1.
the condensate demineralizer system operating procedures have been reviewed and revised to include the appropriate prerequisites, precautions, and check-off lists as necessary to ensure consistency with Section 5.3 of ANSI N18.7-1972.
All operating personnel responsible for operation of the condensate demin-2.
eralizer system will be instructed in the revised procedures discussed in Documentation paragraph 1 above, prior to their performing resin addition..
of this training will be available for NRC review.
Changes to the condensate demineralizer resin regeneration system piping 3.
and instrumentation drawings to reflect the resin addition hopper piping will be initiated by March 1, 1981.
Revision to system piping and instru-mentation drawings reflecting a walk-down of all accessible portions of the system will be completed by September 1, 1981.
A policy statement will be issued to all station personnel by February 13, 4.
