CONTROLLED 00ClFf_NT CAROLINA POWER & LIGHT COlPNW CORPORATE CUALITY ASSURANCE DEPARTMENT ER WS2 CA/CC - HARRIS PLANT SECTION QCI-13.1 1 TITLE: CONCRETE COMPRESSIVE STRENGTH TESTING 1.0 PURPOSE The purpose of this instruction is to provide guidelines for handling, curing and testing of concrete test specimens.

2.0 .

SCOPE

'This instruction applies to concrete test specimens delivered to the concrete laboratory for compressive strength testing.

3.0 REFERENCES

1. ASTM C-39, Test for Compressive Strength of Cylindrical Concrete Specimens.

2. ASTM C-192, Making and Curing Concrete Test Specimens in the Laboratory. -

3. ASTM C-617, Capping Cylindrical Concrete Specimens.

4'. 0 INSTRUCTIONS 4.1 Receiving 4.1.1 The QA/CC Inspector shall inspect test speci= ens l received at the laboratcry for curing and/or testing to ensure the following:

1. ' Identification marking or tagging is attached and

, legible.

2. Condition (Evidence of mishandling and scarring will be noted on the reverse side of the applicable Daily Compressive Test Record sheet.)

3. Documentation received with the specimen specifies the required test date and is identifiable with the specimen. (Contact the Civil QA/CC Specialist l in the event of disparities.) ,

4.1.2 Specimens chall be recorded by specimen ider.tification on the Daily Compressien Test Record (For CA-63).

4.2.2 Temperature and humidity of the curing room shall be recorded daily. .

4.3 Capping ,

4.3.1 Capping of specimens shall be in accordance with Reference 3.

4.4 Testing 4.4.1 Testing machine shall be operated in ecccrdance with "Forney Testing Machine operating Instructions."

4.4.2 Testing of specimens shall be in accordance with Reference 1.

Results of compression strength tests shall be reported on the Daily Com'pressien Test Record (Form QA-63) and submitted to the Civil QA/CC Specialist.
