5. Construction Procedure WP-33, Mixing and Placing of. Soil - Cement 4.0 PROCEDURE 4.1 3atch Plant -

, 4.1.1 The QA/QC Inspector shall inspect the batch plant in accordance with Reference 1. Inspections shall include, but not be limited to, checks to ensure the following:

, 1. Batch card (mix design) corresponds te job requirements.

2. Trucks are clean and. rotation counters are working.
3. Aggregates are properly stored and handled.

4 Cement is protected frem moisture.

5. Mater and ice system do not leak into mix after' weighing.

6 '. Materials are not spilled into mix after weighing.

7. Scales are clean before beginning a batch.
8. Mixer blade wear does not exceed 10% of original blade size.

9 Batch weights are within tolerance specified in Reference 2.

4.1.2 The QA/CC Specialist or his designee will verify mixer efficiency and batch plant equipment initially and in l accordance with the frequencies given in Peference 1 thereafter.

CCNTRO I PG DOCifENT CAROLI'NA PGER & LIGHT COPANY CORPORATE CUALITY ASSURANCE DEPARTMENT QA/CC - HARRIS PLANT SECTION QCI-13.2 1 TIll.E: BATCH FLA:iT IISFECTION 41.3 The QA/QC Inspector shall ensure a batch ticket is l provided with each batch. He will verify the time loaded, actual proportions of the mix and the con-crete design strength and initial the batch ticket.

4.1.a The QA/QC Inspector shall ensure the prebagged sand l and 'ement used in dry packing is separately bagged up ar weighed accurately. The weights of cement and sano shali Le proportioned such that one (1) bag of preweighed sand shall equal a 2:1 sand-cement mixture by volume. The QA/0C Inspector shall compensate for sand moisture during the bagging process as all sand l

weights are based on S. S. D. Conditions.

4.1.5 The QA/QC Inspector shall perform the required test l for solids content of bentonite slurry in accordance with References 4 and 5.

4.2 Concrete Material 4.2.1 Material Rece'ivin-The receipt [nspection of concrete materials shall be conducted as follows: .

1. Cecent
1. The Batch Plant Inspector shall review the

. Silo Test Certificate for co=pliance to Reference 2 prior to acceptance and unloading.

2. Temperature of cement shall be checked upon receipt of cement on site. A-suitable calibrated thermometer shall be inserted approximately 6" into the cenent for 3 =inutes to 5 minutes before reading. Temperature shall be recorded on False Set Characteristics Report (For: CA-le).
3. Cement having a temperature in excess of 150 F.

shall be sampled per Reference 1 and submitted to the laboratory for testing. The cement shall be placed on " Hold" and the Civil CA/CC Specialist l or his designee notified. A false set e t will be performed caly en the hishest temperature of cement receited at the site for a particular Erind and silo number:

This test will be considered valid for the remaining loads of that grind and silo up to and including that temperature. When a tanker having a. higher temperature is received, that load will be sacpled and tested fer false set.

This test will then be used as the " Standard" from that point on. The test being used for acceptability ~will be referenced on the CA-16

. form for other loads over 150 F. Upon reviewing Silo Test Certificates and te=perature of cement to be satisfactory, Accept Tags will be applied.

2. Admixtures and Air Entraining Agents Prior to unloading, the QA/CC Inspector shall I ensure that the certified chemical report and infra-red spectral curves for the batch in question have been verified by the Civil QA/QC Specialist.' l
3. Aggregates Ensure that sand and gravel are unloaded and stock-piled in such a manner that they do not beccce contaminated with foreign material, segregation is minimized and mixing of differen: grades is prevented.
4. Water and Ice Ensure that water and ice are received only from sources which have been tested and approved.

4.2.2 Materials Sampling The OA/30 Inspector shall sample concrete caterials in l storage and submit samples fer testing in accordance with Reference 1.

5.0 DOCUMENTATION Inspection reports and test data chall be transmitted to the Civil QA/CC Specialist for review and filing in CA Reccrds.

b. One or core of the following measures shall be taken for all test specimer.s cast in the field in order to meet the initial curing t'emperatura recuirements:
1. During normal weather cenditions, the test specimens may be protected with polyethylene covering, insulated blankets or insulated curing boxes.
2. During hot weather conditions, test specimens may be cast in a shaded area or steps taken to protecc them from direct sun. The storage temperatures (ASTM C-31) may be regualted by the following means. Protect cardboard colds free contacting wet sand or burlap by double bagging or using a non-absorbent material. Place wet burlap and wet sand around the test specimens to allow cooling by evaporaticn. ,
