DPR-38, DPR-47, and DPR-55 for the Oconee Nuclear Station, Units 1, 2, and 3 (ONS) to the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC). Duke Energy submitted the application pursuant to Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations Part 54, Requirements for Renewal of Operating Licenses for Nuclear Power Plants, for SLR.
On August 18, 2022, the NRC staff held a closed public meeting with Duke Energy to discuss the draft response to request for additional information (RAI) B2.1.7-4a (ML22124A142) regarding PWR Vessel Internals.
In support of meeting, the staff shared discussion topics with Duke Energy (ML22234A005).
During the meeting, the staff and Duke Energy engaged in proprietary technical discussions, which offered Duke Energy a better understanding of information sought as part of RAI B2.1.7-4a.
Additionally, the staff is considering whether a more robust regulatory footprint, such as a license condition, is needed for the inspection of essentially 100 percent of the Primary category core barrel circumferential welds at ONS Unit 2 prior to the entry to the subsequent period of extended operation. It was the staffs goal to understand Dukes perspectives on whether such regulatory footprint was needed, in order to inform NRCs decision-making.
S. Snider In terms of next steps, Duke will revise the response to B2.1.7-4a on the ePortal. Additionally, the staff will continue to engage in internal discussions regarding the potential for an additional license condition.
