DeYotung, Assistant Director for LWR's, Group 1, RL REVIEW OF REVISED DESIGN SNOW LOAD FOR EITREME ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITION PLANT MAME: WPPSS Nuclear Power Project No. 3 - Units 3 & 5 LICENSING STAGE: CP DOCKET NUMBER: 50-508 & 50-509 MILE 3 TONE NO.: 24-32 RESF0tfSIBLE BRANCH: LWR 1-3 REQUESTED COMPLETION DATE: August 29, 1975 APPLICANTS RESPONSE DATE NECESSARY FOR NEXT ACTION FLANNED ON PROJECT: N/A DESCRIPTION OF RESPONSE: None REVIEW STATUS: Meteorology Section, (SAB) - Complete The letter transmitting the meteorology section input to the WPPSS Nuclear Project No. 3 SER, dated June 27, 1975, noted that the applicant had not demonstrated the adequacy of the design snow weight for the extreme environmental condition. This conclusion was based on the applicant's statement that the weight of the 48-hour Probable Maximum Winter Precipitation for the site area was in excess of the 50 pounds / squat a foot design snow load proposed fer the roofs of safety related structures.

l In Amendment No. 20 of the PSAR dated July 1975, in reponse to the i staff's position, the 6pplicant has revised the design bases snow weight used for the extreme environmental condition to 80 pounds / square foot. This value is considered to be sufficient for the site area.
