ENCLOSURE PILGRIM STATUS REPORT FOR THE PERIOD JULY 3 - JULY 9, 1986 1.0 Plant Status As of 8:00 a.m. on July 3, 1986, the reactor was in cold shutdown with the reactor coolant temperature about 120 degrees Fahrenheight.

2.0 Facility Operations Summary The plant has been shut down for maintenance and to make program improvements since April 12, 1986. Boston Edison Company announced that planned inspections of all four (4) Residual Heat Removal pumps in the Emergency Core Cooling System, conduct of local leak rate testing and integrated leak rate testing will lengthen the current outage.

3.0 Items of Special Interest Containment Leakage Testing Since April 12, 1936, 62 containment penetrations have been tested with one failure. That failure was of the outside hatch of a drywell access penetration. The inside hatch in the penetration passed the leak rate test. Leakage tests on 43 containment isolation valves have been conducted with 11 tests exceeding acceptance criteria. Specific test failures identified during this week include an isolation valve on the supply line to the reactor water cleanup system. A redundant isolation valve on this line has been tested and showed an acceptable leakage rate.

4.0 NRC Staff Status during the Period Three NRC Resident Inspectors monitored plant activities between July 3 and July 9, 1986. Currently, the resident inspector staff at Pilgrim consists of the following:
