SUMMARY

~

~ 2 .1 ' Bus Isolator . (Figure 1) rp Tho . Bus " Isolator was- tested with the MCV applied" on the Data-Bus and alternately on the UFM side. The opposite (output) side was completed with a 20 or 100 ohm resistor inserted

'across Li and L2 to simulate ' the output. impedance. L2 was grounded to..the Shield at the MCV input. The MCV was 140 VDC and 120 VAC. Both were tested increasing in incremental steps. Circuit

  • current (TP6-TP7); voltages at TP2 and TP4, TP1 and'TP3, TB1-1 and.TB1-2, TB2-1 and TB2-2, and TP5 and TPB were measured and recorded on the strip chart.

One-eighth amp fuses were installed as jumpers alternately in the A and D positions.

Test results_. showed the following:

A. For 120'VAC applied at: either the UFM and Data

. Bus inputs, with the - A j umpers, the. maximum outputc was 0.23 8f VAC (100 ohm load) and 0.005~ VAC'

-(20 ohm load) ; with' D jumpers, the< maximum output was 0.005' VAC -(100 ohm local) and 0- 0002 VAC (20 .

ohm load). _ ,

B. For 140 VDC applied at eithe'r. the UFM Data Bus inputs, with A or D jumpers, the maximum output was .- a 0.085 V peak. spike with a duration less than 0.04 seconds for 100 ohm load and 0.002 V peak for a 20 ohm load.

C. Maximum current drain under any condition was

0. 003 : amps.

D.. Fuses: did'not open. during the test under any conditions, even.with the 120 VAC applied for 20' minutes.

m 2.2 CCU Optical Isolator (Figure 2) le The optical isolator wau tested in the forward direction with an MCV of 120 VAC applied at TP1 and TP2 and the outputs monitored at TP3 and TP4 and on the power supply at TPS and TP4. Circuit current was also monitored.

The ~ results of this test showed the diode to op'en within 0.005 seconds. An output spike, of 4 V peak and less than 0.005 seconds in duration, occurred with a similar current spike of 0.5 amps. There was no indication of voltage change ,

to the 5 VDC power supply, or any visible damage to the optical module. l 2.3 CCU Transformer Couoled Isolator - Driver (Figure 3) g The transformer coupled isolator was tested in the. reverse direction with an MCV of 120; VAC applied at TP7 and TP8 with 1/ 16 amp fuses encapsulated with RTV, in each leg of the input circuit. Power supply, voltages (TP2. and. TP4', TP1 and.

TP 4) were monitored as well as the clock input at TP6.

Circuit current and voltages at TP8 and'TP7, TP5 and TP9, and voltage across the primary side of the transformer were also measured.

The results of the test showed both fuses to open within 0.01 ,

seconds of the application of the MCV with no, disturbance to the power supply voltage and clock input. The pulse transformer and buffer amplifier were undamaged and functional af ter testing. -

2.4 CCU Transf ormer Coupled Isolator - Receiver (Figure 4)y-l The t ransf o rmer coupled isolator-receiver was tested in the forward direction with an MCV of 118 VAC applied at TP5 and TP6. Power supply voltages (TP1 and TP11, TP2 and TPll) as well as the output at TP9 and TPll. Circuit current and voltages at TP4 and TP7, TP3 and TP8 were also measured. )

Each input leg had a 1/16 amp fuse encapsulated in RTV.  !

I i

The test results show one of the two fuses opened within 0.005 seconds of the application of the MCV with no disturbance to the power supply voltages. The output at TP9 and TP11 show a 0.25 V peak spike of less than 0.005 second duration. The pulse transformer and buff er amplifier were j undamaged and functional after testing. l l

l 2.5 Analoa Multiplexer Transformer Isolator (Figure 5) [

\

An actual analog multiplexer card was tested in the forward direction with both the 140 VDC and 120 VAC MCV applied. The 1

circuit in Figure 5 represents the electrical components from the input connector to the demodulator input. Data was )

acquired at the output of' the demodulator though the f demodulator is not shown.

i The MCV was applied at A and 1 with voltage measurements for i circuit input current (TP3 and TP5) , primary (input) winding )

(TP6 and TP7) , output winding (TP8 and TP9) , and demodulator output (not shown).

For 120 VAC MCV input, the voltage at the primary winding is

0. 010 V p-p with the output of the demodulator providing a saturated 60 Hz signal of 24 V p-p. Saturation was observed to occur between 30 and 60 VAC. Circuit current measured )

0.040 amps. .

EIGEN ENGINEERING, INC. 4 SMD-1034-87-001 REV. 0

2.5 Analoc Multiplexer Isolator (Continued)

For the 140 VDC MCV input, the output of the demodulator is a saturated 11 VDC. The voltage at the primary winding is less than 0.010 Vp-p. The circuit current measured 0.008 amps.

The results show that the MCV is attenuated by the input impedance to low level values which drive the transformer modulator and demodulator circuit into saturation. After testing the circuit board was undamaged and functional.

2.6 Dioital Multiplexer Optical Isolator (Figure 6)g(

This isolator was modeled f rom the input connector through the optical module. The 140 VDC and 120 VAC MCV was applied at the input (TP3 and TP4) with voltages measured across the input diode (TP6 and TP7) , at the power supply (TP8 and TP9),

and at the output (TP10 and TP9) .

The results show, for. thei 12 0 VAC input, a rectified and attenuated 1.0 VDC across the diode and 2.2 VDC saturated output f rom the transistor. The power supply voltage was not affected and circuit current measured 0.040 amps.

l The optical isolator was undamaged and f unctional af ter the test.

The results for the 140 VDC input showed 1.0 VDC across the diode and a' 2.2 VDC saturated output from the transistor.

The power supply voltage was not affected and circuit current measured 0.02 amps.
