Exercise Report for the December 10-11, 1986, Exercise of the Offsite Radiological Emergency Preparedness (REP)

Plans for the Brunswick Nuclear Power Plant Attached is a copy of the Exercise Report for the December 10-11, 1986, partial participation joint exercise of the offsite REP plans for the Brunswick Nuclear Power Plant. R e Brunswick Plant is located near the City of Southport in Brunswick County, approximately 16 miles south of the City of Wilmington, North Carolina. Brunswick and New Hanover Counties, both located in the 10-mile plume emergency plannig zone, fully participated in the exercise. 20 State of North Carolina partially participated on December 10th and on Decmber lith conducted a full participation ingestion pathway exercise. S e State of South Carolina partially participated in

the ingestion pathway exercise on December 11, 1986.

1 h e exercise report, dated February 26, 1987, was prepared by the Region IV staff of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FD4A). S e report does not identify any deficiencies resulting frcm this exercise. There were identifled, however, five areas requiring corrective actions and s several areas reccmriended for improvement. FEMA Region IV staff will '

furnish a copy of this exercise report to the State of North Carolina and will obtain a schedule of corrective actions. Se Region will assure ccznpletion by the State of the necessary corrective actions.

Based upon the results of this exercise, there continues to be reasonable assurance that appropriate protective measures can be implemented by the offsite jurisdictions around the Brunswick Nuclear Power Plant to protect the' health and safety of the public in the event of a radiological emergency.

Werefore, the 44 CFR 350 approval granted c6 March 17,1982, will remain in effect.
