JSEALED SOURCE TYPE: Radiography Source Assembly. -

DESCRIPTION:

The Model M series' source assemblies are designed for use in-Magnaflux Model MX-IC-100-exposure devices. The Model M series .

consists'of three " pigtail" assemblies: the M-1-A which uses the  ?

GammaLIndustries long saf-t-key-connector,-the M-1-G which uses the Gamma Industries short-saf-t-key connector'and the M-l'-T which uses the Tech Ops connector.

.These sources are single encapsulation, fabricated from type 316 inc 304 ' stainless steel 1 with an _ end cap which is heliarc (TIG) welded. ' Capsule-wall thicknessJis maintained at a minimum of i 0.030"'(0.76 nmt) and the connector,. locking ball and source capsule?are1 crimped-_to 1/8" -(3.18 mm) diameter stainless steel-

= cable, exceptifor the M-1-T which uses teleflex cable. Overall

" pigtail"- dimensional tolerance is held to 11/32" (i0.79 mm).  ;

The-;overall " pigtail"-length depends'upon~which connector is '

used.

. PROTOTYPE' TESTING: l

. ,The manufacturer states that all prototype source encapsulations  ;

! meet or exceed'the requirements for industrial radiography .]

' sources'found in ANSI. publication N5.10-1968 and have been 1 assigned a classification.offE32515.

. QUALITY ASSURANCE AND CONTROL:

Eachi" pigtail"' assembly shall be subjected to a 150 lb.

_68.04lkg)

( pull test' prior to radioactive material insertion, and shall-be; subjected to wipe test after the material isLsealed in the. capsule. If the results of-the test are doubtful, then a hot water-bubble test will?be' employed. . No~ source'will be shipped if removable contaminationt exceeds ~0.005 microcurie (185 Bq).

LIMITATIONS-AND/OR OTHER CONSIDERATIONS OF USE:

1The - source shall' :be possessed and ~ used' by- persons specifically" licensed by the NRC or.an-Agreement State.

SAFETY ANALYSIS

SUMMARY

E The Model "M" Series ~ source is no longer manufactured or Edistributed by Gamma Industries, Inc. and Gamma Industries, Inc.

is no longer in business. Therefore, the registration certificate is being converted to an. inactive registration

! certificate.

The source was' originally approved-for licensing purposes by the Louisiana Division of Radiation Control. NRC attempted to obtain-copies of all information submitted by the registrant in support of the evaluation. However, NRC could not locate all the information. .Therefore, no safety evaluation of the source was performed as part of the conversion of the certificate to inactive status.
