Subject:

Docket No. 50-362, Additional Information Supporting Third Ten-Year Inservice Inspection (ISI) Interval Relief Request ISI-3-21 Request for Alternative to ASME Code Rules for the Embedded Flaw Repair Process for Control Element Drive Mechanism (CEDM) # 56, San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station Unit 3

Dear Sir or Madam,

Southern California Edison (SCE) made a commitment in the referenced letter to complete the formal evaluation inspection data for the control rod drive mechanism CEDM # 56 and provide a copy of that report to the U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff in the spring of 2007.

SCE continues to believe that the indication identified in CEDM # 56 is not a defect and has found nothing in the evaluation process to date, to contradict that belief. Additional review by SCE and the review by an independent expert, however, remain to be performed before the evaluation is complete.

SCE currently plans to complete the formal evaluation process and submit the evaluation to the NRC by August 31, 2007. SCE would like the opportunity to meet with the NRC Staff in September and discuss the evaluation and SCE's plans based on the results of the evaluation.
