Interim Biological Study

Dear Mr. Traina:

Reference is made to your May 30, 1978 letter regarding Florida Power Corporation's (FPC) proposed additions to our present monitoring program at the subject facility.  ;

As page two of my February 22, 1978 letter indicates the study plan addi-tions submitted, which did not include additions to the benthic motabolism study presently being conducted, were acceptable to Mr. Lee Tebo of EPA.

Furthermore, in a subsequent telephone conversation with Dr. D. K. Voigts of my staff on May 23, 1978 Mr. Tebo reiterated his acceptance of the submitted additions and suggested we implement them imediately. The benthic metabolism studies were not extended to the odter bays because the method is unreliable in such open water conditions where the history of the v=ter mass is uncertain. The benthic metabolism studies are being con! iue. as described ,! ,y December 7,1977 submittal to Mr. H. D. Zeller.

You. May 30. 1978 letter refers to benthic metabclism studies in the rne year study to be conducted upon completion of intake canal dredging activ-ities. I do not feel that it is appropriate for FPC to commit to specifics of these studies a' this time.

Pursuant to my staff's discussions with Mr. Tebo we will be implementing the proposed study additions, as submitted in my February 22, 1978 letter, in June 1978.
