Crystal River Plant NPDES Permit No. FL 0000159
Dear Mr. Zeller:
On December 7,1977 Florida Power Corporation (FPC) submitted to your, office a description of our Nuclear Regulatory Coitmission (NRC) mandated Environmental Technical Specification (ETS) program at Crystal River.
One of the studies described in the " Biological Studies" section is
" Screen Impingement of Adult and Juvenile Fishes".
On November 8,1977 FPC proposed, to the NRC, an amendment to our Crystal River ETS program which would allow temporary suspension of impingement monitoring during intake canal modification.
The attached amendment No.12 to our operating license states that the requested temporary suspension is acceptable.
During their consideration of our proposal Mr. Tom Cain of the NRC discussed this matter with Mr. Kaplan of your office, at which time Mr. Kaplan indicated that this temporary suspension of impingement studies would not contradict the requirements of the Crystal River NPDES permit or study plans related to 316(a) or 316(b) demonstrations (see also; paragraph 3, page 2 of attached document).
FPC is therefore suspending the impingement monitoring study at Crystal River as of March 15, 1978.
