A siren system is being proposed for notification of the public in the event of an accident at the Trojan Nuclear Plant. A design description of the siren system war. submitted for review to Region X of the Federal Emergency Management Agency office on June 20, 1980 In February 1980 you agreed in a discussion with Mr. T. D. Walt to review the proposed design; therefore, attached for your review is a draf t Appendix l-B to the Trojan Radiological Emergency Plan and Pro-cedures Manual entitled " Description of Public Notification System for the Trojan Nuclear Plant'.

We would appreciate your addressing the following questions in regard to this document:

Do sirens constitute an adequate public notification system?
