Dear Chairman Hendrie:

I want to express my appreciation for your participation in the Trojan emergency response exercise on March 4.

From my viewpoint, the drill was the most effective, Trojan drill held since the plant began operatia.- in 1975.

I believe. NRC's participation contributed to this improvement. With few exceptions, I believe we demonstrated the ability to share information and discuss remedial actions during the initial phases of an accident.

In particular, your discussion of the possibility of venting the containment building underscored the importance of effective technical discussions between state and NRC officials. We will need to be as effective during later stages of an accident when the NRC establishes a presence at the plant site.

Again, thank you for your participation in the drill and please let me or l

the Or gon Department of Energy know if we can be of assistance to you.
