apercentage ofthebreakmassflowflashestosteamat14.7psia.Theremaining breakmassflowenterstheroomassaturated liquidat2124F.Forconservatism, thiscalculation neglectsanyheatloadassociated withthesaturated liquidenteringtheroom.Thisisconsidered reasonable, sinceopenfloordrainsexistineachoftheroomsunderconsideration.

Thistemperature profile,althoughconservative, onlyunderpredicts actualexpectedtemperature responseby3to5F(engineering judgement).

Section4.7calculates thebreakmassflowbaseduponactualconditions inthepipe.Then,theamountofflashingisdetermined byallowingtheseconditions toexpandadiabatically totheroompressureof14.7psia.Thispercentage isappliedtothebreakmassflowtodetermine theamountofpuresteamwhichenterstheroomfortheconditions beinganalyzed.

4.0 METHODOLOGY

TheCompartment Transient Temperature AnalysisProgram(COTTAP)wasusedtoanalyzetheaffectsofasteamleakinvariousroomswithintheplant.SincetheRWCUroomscontainprocesslinesofvaryingenergyconditions, theanalysiswasperformed fortwodifferent setsofbreakconditions.

Thefirstcaseanalyzedabreakfornormalconditions experienced attheinlettotheRWCUsystem(1025psig/535F).Thesecondcaseconsidered thelowestpossibleenergycondition whichwasbelievedtobedetectable bytheexistingGEtemperature-based steamleakdetection system(1190psig/440F).Allotherprocesslinesareoflowerenergyconditions andwereassumednottobedetectable.

Theprogrampredicted temperature profilesfortheroomunderconsideration withthefollowing setofconditions 1)5gpmsubcooled waterleak(Summer)2)5gpmsubcooled waterleak(Winter)3)25gpmsubcooled waterleak(Summer)4)25gpmsubcooled waterleak(Winter)Theindividual roommodelsweredeveloped fromvarioussourcesofinformation, asidentified inSection2.0References.

TheRWCUroomshavebeenmodeledasthreeinter-connected volumeswhichcommunicate witheachother.Theeffectsofeachleakareconsidered onallthreerooms.Therefore, theresultswillconsistof24separateCOTTAPoutputsandtheassociated temperature profilesforthecond'.tions statedabove.Thefollowing discussion isprovidedtooutlinethestepsusedindeveloping theindividual roommodels.

Adjacentroomvolumesweresettoalargevalue(i.e.1.0EE15cu.ft.)tomaintainconstantproperties suchastemperature, pressureandrelativehumidity.

Allroomswereassumedtobeataninitialpressureof14.7psia.InitialTemperature Allroomswereassumedtobeattheirmaximumnormaldesigntemperature initially forsummerconditions.

Actualwinterdatawasused,whereavailable, asastartingpointforthewinterruns.Thewinterdatawastakenasthe"blue-box"averagetemperature forJanuary1988.TheJanuarydatawasconsidered tobemoreconservative thanFebruarydata.Whereactualwinterdatawasnotavailable, thedesignminimumroomtemperature of60Fwasused.Wherewinterdatawasnotavailable fortheroominquestion, theroomwasstartedatatemperature whichallowsittoreachasteady-statewithitsadjacentrooms.Theoutsideambienttemperature wastakenas79F(summer)and26F(winter).

ThesummerambientwastakenfromReference 2.8asthe24hourdailyaveragetemperature, baseduponthe14ASHRAEdesignvaluefortheWilkes-Barre/

Scrantonarea.ThewintervaluewastakenastheactualmonthlyaverageforJanuaryovertheyears1986thru1989.ThisaveragewasbaseduponSSESMeteorological Datatakenfromtheplantcomputer.

Acomparison ofFebruarydataoverthissametimeperiodindicated thattheJanuarydatawasmoreconservative.

RelativeHumidityTherelativehumidityforallroomsconnected byventilation orleakagepathsisbaseduponoutsideairtemperatures of92FDB/78FWB(summer)and-5FDB/-5FWB(winter).

Airattheseconditions wasthenallowedtoheatuporcooldown(sensible heating/cooling only)totheinitialroomtemperature, andthecorresponding RHvaluecalculated orreadfromthepsychrometric chart.

Therefore, avalueof10.0ftwasinputtedforeachroom.Thisvaluehasnosignificance tothecalculation.

Notethattheactualroomheightwasusedinthecalculation ofroomvolume.4.2AirflowandLeakagePathDataAirflowDataThedesignairflowisprovidedfortheroomunderconsideration.

Allflowpathsareidentified (i.e.supply,exhaustandtransferair).ThesourceoftheairflowdataisthePAIDassociated withtheparticular ventilation systemforthatroom.Thedataidentifies theroomfromwhichtheaircomes,andtheroomtowhichtheairgoes.Aconservative valueof110<designairflowisinputtedtothemodel,sinceairflowsarebalancedto+10%.Refertothedatainputsectionfortheactualvaluesusedinthismodel.Thesupply,exhaustandtransferairlinestotheRWCURoomsareequippedwithbackdraftisolation damperstopreventthespreadofsteamtoadjacentroomsintheeventofahighenergylinebreakoutsidecontainment.

Thesedampersisolateatadifferential pressureof5"WG.TheBDID'sarenotexpectedtocloseduetoasteamleakofthismagnitude.

Therefore, themodelassumestheairflowpathremainsopenthroughout thisevent.Revision1ofthiscalculation modelsseparateexhaustregisters foreachoftheroomsunderconsideration.

TheoriginalanalysisutilizedacommonexhaustregisterlocatedwithintheRWCUPenetration room.TheexhaustfromeachroomwasmodeledastransferairsuppliedtothePenetration room,whereitmixedperfectly priortoexitingthearea.RefertoAppendixAforthespecificairflowdatachanges.LeakagePathDataAswiththeairflowdata,allroomsconnected totheleakagepathareidentified.

Theleakagepathareaisonlyusedtoscaletheleakageflowrates fortheentirecompartment underconsideration.

TheopendoorwaysbetweentheRWCUroomsaremodelledasleakagepaths,sincethesearelargeareas.4.3HeatLoadDataHeatLoadTypeThetypeofheatloadwasidentified usingthefollowing nomenclature TypeDescription LightingElectrical PanelsMotorsUnitCoolersPipingMisc.Mechanical Equipment HeatInputRateTheheatrateinputinBtu/hrfortheassociated heatload.Thevaluesforheatloadtypes1thru3wereobtainedfromReferences 2.2&2.3.Theheatrateinputsfortype4heatloadsareinputtedasnegativevaluessincetheunitcoolersremoveheatfromtheroom.Theheatinputratefortype5heatloadswereinputas-1.ThisvaluedirectsCOTTAPtoobtainpipinginformation necessary tocalculate thepipingheatloads.Theheatinputratefortype8heatloadswasobtainedfromReferences 2.2&2.3,asnecessary fortheappropriate room.Toachieveaninitialsteady-state condition, amiscellaneous heatload(positive ornegative) wasaddedtothemainroomtobalanceallothertimezeroheatloads.Thisheatloadwasinputtedastype8.NotethatCOTTAPneglectscoldpipeandequipment asheatsinks.Thisrepresents non-conservatism inthiscalculation.

Asamplerunmadetodetermine theeffectsoftheseheatsinksindicated thatresultant temperatures wereonlyslightlylowerthanthevaluespredicted whenneglecting theseheatsinks.Therefore, thiscalculation assumestheeffectsoftheseheatsinksarenegligable.
