Subject:

Acceptance of License Amendment Request for reviewBy letter dated December 21, 2012, the Southern Nuclear Operating Company (SNC) submitted a license amendment request (LAR) concerning degraded voltage compensatory measures for the Hatch Nuclear Plant.

By letter dated April 22, 2013, the U.S. Nuclear R egulatory Commission (NRC) staff identified that supplemental information would be needed to enable the NRC staff to accept the LAR for review. By letter dated June 21, 2013, SNC responded to that supplemental information request.

The NRC staff has reviewed your letters of December 21, 2012 and June 21, 2013 and concludes that they do provide technical information in sufficient detail to enabl e the NRC staff to continue its detailed technical review and make an independent assessment regarding the acceptability of the request in terms of regulatory requirements and the protection of public health and safety and the environment. Given the lesser scope and depth of the acceptance review as compared to the detailed technical review, there may be instances in which issues that impact the NRC staff's ability to complete the detailed technical review are identified despite completion of an adequate acceptance review. If additional information is needed, you will be advised by separate correspondence.
