III.METHODOFANALYSISWeldstresscalculations were'erformed foreachQ-Listedsupportasrequiredtoverifythatnoneoftheshopweldswereoverstressed inthe"as-fabricated" configuration.
Thesecalculations wereperformed usingthesmallestsectionfound,carriedthefulllengthoftheweld.Thisrepresents aconservative
- approach, sinceveryfewoftheshopweldsquestioned wereundersize forthefulllength.Forcesontheweldsweredetermined inaccordance withITTGrinnell's StressCriteriadatedJanuary17,1978,seeAppendixD,whichwasapprovedwithcommentsbyBechtelonMarch9,1978.Theload'perlinearinchwascalculated andcomparedtothemaximumallowable loadperlinearinchasspecified intheabovelistedStressCriteria.
