This' material is applied to the l raceways and causes a dorating of the continuous ampacity capability of the j cables,inside the raceways. i j The original ampacity dorating factors, used for power cables, were 12.5% for a 1-hour wrap and 20.55% for 3-hour wrap. UL tests indicate that 28.04% and 31.15% respectively should be used. The IEEE paper " Fire Protection Wrapped ] cable Tray Ampacity" appears to confirm the UL tests. i The concern is that the power cables inside raceways wrapped with thermal-lag material may be operating at temperatures beyond their qualification temperature due to nominal ampacity exceeding the maximum allowable dorating when the UL 28.04% and 31.15% dorating factors are used. Control and instrweent cables are not a concern since, by design, these cables operate at a minimum of 334 below their rated ampacity. 2.0 EURPOSE The purpose of this evaluation is to detemine the maximum s.llowable derating j factors for power cables in raceway wrapped with thermal-lag material. Power cables in wrapped cable trays and conduits are to be to evaluated. These 4 maximum dorating factors are to be compared to the UL dorating factors of 2 i 28.04% and 31.15% to assure that the power cable operating temperatures do not ) exceed their qualified temperatures. j
3.0 CONCLUSION
S a All the power raceways, wrapped with thermal-lag material, in Unit 1 and Unit 2 are protected with 1-hour barriers except for the following raceways which l have 3-hour barriers. 1 { D1P025 A2P008 F2P023 l F1P030 A2P009 i FIP467 A2P016 F1P601 A2P031 The evaluation in section 7 shows that the maximum allowable dorating for power cables in raceways with thermal-lag wrap exceed the UL dorating factors of 28.04% for 1-hour barriers or 31.15% for 3-hour barriers. These cables are not operated beyond their qualified temperatures. Therefore there is no adverse impact to the Appendix R Safe Shutdown Analysis. 1 j d h

=.- SEA-EE-432 REV O. PAGE 4 - OF M 6.0 MEZilgE Power cable trays and conduits wrapped with thermal-lag material were identified from E-294 Rev 10 and E-295 Rev 8. Carts and cabrac were used to identify cables in the wrapped raceways. For each identified cable, the load currents were identified by reviewing i scheme drawings, circuit breaker setpoint calculation, SEAS and vendor drawings. For each cable the maximum allowable cable ampacity was identified from Notes and Details E-57 Rev 5. The maximum allowable dorating for each cable was calculated by: Max Derate t = (1- (load current / max allowable ampacity)) X 100 The maximum allowable dorate was compared to the UL dorating of 28.04% for 1-hour wrap and 31.15% dorate for 3-hour wrap to assure the cable qualification temperature is not exceeded. For cable tray with greater than 30% Fill, the maximum allowable ampacity was determined. For E1P197 and FIF179, the maximum allwable ampacity for the for cables in these conduita was determined for an ambient temperature of 80*F since these conduits are located in the control Structure which has a maximum ambieny of 80*F. (FSAR Table 3.11-6) 7.0 RESULTS There are 73 power raceways in Unit 1 and 56 power raceways in Unit 2 wrapped with thermal-lag material. (see Attachment 1 for list of raceways) These contain 205 cables for Unit 1 and 164 cables for Unit 2. The evaluation in Attachsent 2 for power cables in raceways wrapped with thermal-lag shows that the maximum allowable dorating of the cables exceeds the UL dorating factors of 28.04% for 1-hour wrap or 31.15% for 3-hour wrap. lists the maximum allowable dorating for cables operating at a conductor of 90 C with all other cables in the raceway also operating at 90 C. Since 90 C is the qualified temperature for the cable, the power cables in raceways wrapped with 1-hour or 3-hour thermal-lag barrier are not operating beyond their qualified temperature. I ~ i
