==Dear Chief Watson:==
On behalf of the Humboldt County Board of Supervisors, I am writing to express our support for theHumboldt Bay Power Plant (HBPP) License Termination Plan that was recently submitted for yourconsideration by Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E). The plan submitted by PG&E is a well-thought out approach to addressing the challenges of decommissioning the former nuclear powergeneration station in a manner that is safe for the local community and the environment.
A critical element of the decommissioning plan includes a proposal to remove all the underground structures associated with the former Unit 3 nuclear facility, including the caisson.
We support thisproposal as it will help protect the local environment.
Humboldt County is unique and the Humboldt Bayis one of our greatest treasures and most important natural assets. Removing the caisson and all associated underground structures will help to ensure the long-term wellness of the Bay and the Humboldtcommunity.
PG&E's decision to remove the caisson came in response to significant local input on thematter, and we appreciate their responsiveness to community feedback on this important issue.We appreciate the critical role the Commission plays in the decommissioning process and we thank youfor taking the time to carefully consider the proposals outlined in the HBPP License Termination Plan.We look forward to the Commission's formal approval of the plan so that PG&E can enter the final phaseof the plant decommissioning.
Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
Thank you.Sincerely, Ryan Sundberg, ChairHumboldt County Board of Supervisors RS:khcc: Mr. John B. Hickman, Project ManagerU.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Two White Flint NorthMail Stop T-8 F511555 Rockville, MD 20852-2738}}
